About the SBI Preforming Arts Program

the first Arts High School in America was in this building this was music and art until at last year to merge Performing Arts to form what is now knowing York City LaGuardia high school but it was started here great musicians first year became the first when April Randolph High School was created because it was the first high school that was developed and created by something other than a Board of Education profit organization Grassroots organization came into the school and develop programs and initiatives that compliment what the Department of Education was put into this building started as a way to create execration what kind of things for the students be at the high school we started with a board step team and then started to a girl step team at the time the school bus from Oregon play catch-up color African-American and West Indian students in the lady years we start adding other performance groups they need to be able to say what they can bring to the table when I have a young person here who's done the same things that they do in the suburbs where they have drama and where they do a school play and they're having bad and you're also getting rid of horses my kids have those same kind of Spencer they can come there and they said we perform in the Desi dance vocal draw top 20 South Asian dance and we did the same thing the West Indian group we did with Latin DVD primary goal this week go forward with the iPad to school arts program would be to get the funding that we need to be able to have more full-time staff will you run it right now with part-time staff pool hold can give to my sweat-stink condensated for we run it with their lives the van so we can't have the teaching artist shift 2 days we have only get one day but we need to have fun so we can have the teaching August here two days 82 pulley run rehearsal in the spring everyone comes together again for the arts program that we do what we do a Big Show in the spring with a certain theme this year is going to be straight out of Harlem inspired by Malcolm X inspired by Martin Luther King inspired by the movie that says I shot that start on the west coast fighting for rights for people who work in the field that's the thing that we can be doing in the spring but it's all Arts programming head bills Community bills Pride students confident on intrical part of our program has helped set the tone in this building we believe that students should have access to the art should be a model for an eye on our school that has Claudia cost expense and we should be able to prove that the child is in this building doing watch is more prepared as going to be more successful after they leave High School the child was just been in a high school taking classes they prepare for test and then going to community it is special issue unique it's in Harlem it's Sugar Hill looking down at Strivers row this needs to be great and if we can get the support for the arts program we're doing here that will send us along all the way where we want to go
