College Fairs
APR, in partnership with HSMSE, hosts 2 annual college fairs; one in the Fall for grades 9-12, and one in the Spring for only Junior students. Over 60 colleges, programs, trade schools, and military branches visit our school to engage in one-on-one discussions with students regarding the offerings of their institutions. This initiative serves as an invaluable resource, allowing students to explore their interests and preferences for post-secondary education while also providing networking opportunities with representatives during their morning sessions.
Decision Day
Our annual Decision Day is scheduled to take place following the National Decision Day, serving as a celebration of the dedication and accomplishments of our Seniors, not only during their final year but throughout their entire high school journey. This event is immensely popular among our students; it is an exclusive celebration dedicated to Seniors, featuring a variety of carnival-style attractions. Students can indulge in fair foods, participate in carnival games, enter raffles for prizes, receive complimentary merchandise, and enjoy a free lunch.
YL CUNY Event
The period from the end of October to mid-November was designated as Free CUNY Application Month, encouraging students nationwide to complete their applications without incurring the $65 fee. Our dedicated Youth Leaders took the initiative to ensure that the entire Senior cohort completed their CUNY applications. By the November 15th deadline, they successfully submitted over 215 applications, representing nearly 90% of the Senior cohort. To celebrate this achievement, we treated our Youth Leaders to a bowling outing, where they enjoyed a day filled with bowling, arcade games, and a complimentary lunch.
QuestBridge Matches
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our two senior students who successfully matched with the QuestBridge National College Scholarship! This prestigious program offers full scholarships to high-achieving, low-income students, enabling them to attend some of the nation's top universities. This year, our distinguished scholars have matched with Williams College and Princeton University. A significant commendation to both Asa Sterling, attending Williams College, and Alberto Perez Vidal, who will be attending Princeton University. Their hard work and determination have truly paid off!
Alumni Day
Our annual Alumni Day event honors the alumni of A. Philip Randolph. Each year, former students return to engage with our current seniors, offering valuable insights into life beyond high school, including experiences related to college, work, and the broader world. Seniors are encouraged to ask questions and network, making this day a meaningful blend of professional development and enjoyment.
