The Lady Cougars girls softball team won their season opener, 22-19, against East Harlem Pride.
Sophomore Iradath Ibrahim Gaza pitched for the lady cougars, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 5 players. This is her very first time playing softball and just her second day pitching. Iradath also hit a single and had 3 RBI's.
Junior Branyerli Soto plays 3B for the lady cougars and she turned a triple play in the first inning and a double play in the second inning. Branyerli is also new to the game as she played for the first time ever last season.
Freshman Yakira De La Cruz had 2 great hits bringing in 4 RBI's.
Senior and team captain Skye Cardinales-Viruet scored 4 runs for the cougars and had 7 stolen bases.
Today (03/28/2024) the lady cougars have their home opener against Bayard Rustin Educational Complex at Jacob Schiff. Game time is at 4pm, weather permitting.
